How It All Began: From Healing to Creating

My crochet journey began years ago, with simple projects like blankets and afghans. I found immense joy in creating pieces that brought comfort and warmth to friends and family. However, my passion for crochet deepened significantly in 2020 after I lost my mum to cancer. It was a time of profound grief, and I needed something to help me cope with the overwhelming emotions.

I turned to crochet as a way to heal, participating in Crochet Alongs (CALs) with my daughter and friends. What started as a therapeutic outlet quickly became an obsession. I went from creating a single blanket to exploring more intricate designs and challenging myself with new techniques. Crochet became more than just a hobby—it was my solace, my creative outlet, and a way to keep my mum’s memory alive.

Crochet Lou: My Passion Project

It’s important to note that crochet isn’t my full-time job—rather, it’s a passion project that I dedicate my free time to. By day, I have a career that keeps me busy, but in the evenings and on weekends, you’ll find me surrounded by yarn, hooks, and patterns. Crochet Lou is a labour of love that allows me to share my creativity with others, turning my hobby into something that brings joy to others as well.

Despite not being my full-time job, I pour my heart into every piece I create, ensuring that each one is crafted with the utmost care and attention to detail. This isn’t just a business for me; it’s a way to connect with people who appreciate the beauty of handmade crafts and the stories behind them.

Introducing Gloria: The Velvet Octopus

As my skills evolved, so did my desire to create something truly unique. Enter Gloria, the luxurious velvet octopus. Gloria isn’t just a plushie; she’s a piece of art and a reflection of the love and care I put into every stitch. Crafted using the "Anchor the Octopus" pattern, Gloria is made with soft velvet yarn, giving her a plush, huggable texture that’s simply irresistible.

Each Gloria takes 8-10 hours to complete, with meticulous attention to detail. Her tentacles, made with a contrasting inner layer of bobble stitches to mimic suckers and an outer layer of velvet, are a labour of love that results in a truly special creation. Gloria is more than just a product—she’s a companion, a statement piece, and a testament to the beauty of handmade craftsmanship.
